Abstract
Purpose: The authors intended to evaluate the clinical and radiological short-term results of metal on metal articulation cementless hip arthroplasty.

Materials and Methods: Sixty patients, 66 hips were followed for more than 2 years following Alloclassic metal on metal articulation hip arthroplasty. The mean age was 53 years, and the mean follow-up period was 3.7 years. The Harris hip score and postoperative hip pain were analyzed clinically. The radiological results were assessed using various radiological indices.

Results: At last follow-up, average Harris hip score was increased from preoperative 49 points to 94 points, and there was no significant hip pain. Radiologically, all stems showed stable fixation. The inclination of cup was significantly changed in two cases (3%), and diagnosed as loosening. Osteolysis was observed in 2 cases (3%) around the stem. Radiolucent line was observed around the stem in 6 cases (9.1%), and around the cup in 4 cases (6.0%). Endosteal new bone formation was observed around the stem in 56 cases (84.8%), and around the cup in 41 cases (62.1%).

Conclusion: With a minimum follow-up of 2 years, metal on metal articulation hip arthroplasty showed good clinical and radiological results. However, more long-term follow-up is required in terms of cup stability and osteolysis.
